Traditionally, traces of life (and celebration) are allowed to appear on your cap. For others, they even symbolize important events and bring back fond memories from your student days. However, if something appears on your cap that you want to clean or maintain, you can see if these instructions will help you.
Loose dirt, dust and hair
Loose dirt, such as dust and hair, is easiest to clean with a clothes brush or tape brush. Brush the cap consistently in the same direction, using repeated movements. Avoid rubbing the velvet vigorously.
Cleaning the visor
Stains and fingerprints on the visor can be cleaned by wiping with a mild soap solution. A microfiber cloth or eyeglass cleaning cloth are also effective tools. Avoid sharp and abrasive tools to avoid scratching the visor. It is not possible to remove scratches, cuts and dents from the visor.
Stain cleaning instructions
The velvet used in our caps repels dirt, so cleaning it from common stains is usually easy. You can try a mild soap solution, which you can easily make yourself with a little water and dishwashing liquid. Dip a cleaning cloth in the soapy water, then gently wet and wipe the stain with it. You can also spray the soap solution on the stain, let it work for 1-2 minutes, and only then clean the surface of the cap with a damp cloth. Please note that the velvet pile may be pressed down if you rub too hard. When removing a stain, patiently wipe several times rather than trying to clean it quickly with too much force. Finally, you can wipe the cap with a cloth dampened with water to avoid leaving traces of soap. Let the cap dry. Once the cap has dried, it is worth steaming it.
Tough stains
For example, stains caused by marker or other waterproof substances and their cleaning may permanently damage the cap. However, if you want to try, you can dip a rag in a solvent such as sinoyl and wipe gently with it. First, test on a small area. If the method seems effective, you can then try on a larger area. Always consider your health and the safety instructions of the substance you are using.
Steaming
Dents or unevenness that appear in the velvet of the cap can usually be repaired with water vapor. Put water to heat in a pot and wait for the water to start to evaporate. Pay attention to your safety and reduce the heat of the plate so that the water does not boil and splash violently. Roll the surface of the cap in the water vapor rising from the pot. Hold the cap by placing your hands on the inside of the cap so that you do not feel the heat in your fingers. The pile of the velvet will fluff up under the influence of the water vapor.
We also recommend steaming if your cap has stubborn stains, odors, or if you want your cap to be more hygienically clean. Steam destroys microbes and the cap feels freshest afterwards. In that case, remove all loose dirt with a damp cloth before steaming.
